Pallisa District Woman MP Faith Alupo has passed on, Parliament of Uganda has announced in a brief statement on September 15.
MP Alupo was pronounced dead at Mulago Hospital.
“Parliament has learnt with sorrow of the untimely death of Hon Faith Alupo, Woman MP for Pallisa District which occurred at Mulago Hospital. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” read a statement issued by Parliament.
The cause of her death was yet to be revealed.
But sources claimed she had succumbed to Covid19.
Born in 1983, Alupo was elected MP on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket in a 2018 by-election.
In July 2018, Alupo was declared winner of the byelection in Pallisa after the Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified her closest challenger Catherine Achola Osupelem of main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
The EC had ruled that the name Achola used on her nomination forms was different from what appeared on her academic papers.
The Pallisa Woman MP seat had fallen vacant after its holder Agnes Ameede chose to contest for the same post in the newly created Butebo District.
By the time of her death, Alupo had sued James Cokas Onapi, who works for Children’s Life Development Association (CHILDA), a Non-Government Organization (NGO), for defamation in relation to a Shs10m debt.
She had also lost the NRM primary election to Kevin Kaala Ojinga.
