Doreen Nyanjura has announced she will run for president in the 2026 if President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba successfully registers as a presidential candidate.
A sworn supporter of opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye and his politics of defiance, Nyanjura is the current Deputy Lord Mayor of the Ugandan capital Kampala. She is also a Councillor for Makerere University.
One of the vibrant young women in the Besigye-led struggle against Gen Museveni’s rule, Nyanjura calls herself ‘a child of the struggle.’
The defiance-hardened Nyanjura has today revealed that her supporters, the so-called Nyanjura-holics, have asked her to stand against Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi if the former Commander of UPDF Land Forces dares contest to replace his 78-year-old father in 2026.
Museveni has ruled Uganda since 1986 when he took power through a five-year bush war that left hundreds of thousands of people in the Luweero Triangle dead.
A plot to help Muhoozi succeed his father as president is slowly taking shape — so is the 2026 presidential race.
Museveni recently fired his son as the Commander of the UPDF Land Forces following a serious of careless tweets, including one in which the 48-year-old president’s child ‘joked’ about capturing the Kenyan capital Nairobi within two weeks.
But Gen Museveni promoted his son to the rank of General, the highest in the national army, the UPDF. Muhoozi has since handed over office to his successor Lt Gen Apollo Muhanga Kayanja, and has also been decorated by his uncle Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Saleh and wife Charlotte Nankunda Kutesa Kainerugaba. (See Details Here).
Shortly before his ‘Nairobi Capture’ saga, Muhoozi had made a shocking revelation on his plan to take over from his father Museveni in 2026. (Read Story Here).
He also hinted on his next move (to the presidency) shortly after he was decorated a full UPDF general. (Details of his next move are Here).
With such revelations as detailed in stories above, Nyanjura has revealed that some people have been pestering her to consider running against a candidate called Muhoozi in the next presidential poll.
“If Muhoozi Kainerugaba is standing for Presidency in 2026, I am contesting against him,” said Nyanjura.
“My supporters (the Nyanjuraholics) have asked me to do this country a favour.”
Last week, Nyanjura made narrated a shocking story of how she had to wear many pants to avoid being raped by police officers who arrested her. She revealed that one the officers had openly told her: ‘This is your last day on earth!’ (Read Shocking Story Here).
