JUST ASKING! Why Do Minister Aceng Branded Jerrycans Remind You of CocaCola Jerrycans Donation During Covid19 Pandemic?

A poster showing the picture of health minister Dr Jane Ruth next to a yellow jerrycan branded with another image of the minister has attracted attention online.

For those who don’t know, Minister Aceng is the Lira City Woman MP since 2021.

In case you have forgotten, she was in the spotlight for holding rallies during the Covid19 pandemic when other politicians were barred from holding rallies. (See Details Here and Here).

Now that you remember that, let’s also remind you that Minister Aceng is facing stiff competition from a cabinet colleague: Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development Betty Amongi of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

In fact, Minister Amongi is wife to Jimmy Akena, the UPC leader and son to two-time president Apollo Milton Obote.

So it’s going to be UPC vs the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). Wait, we should also let you know that it appears to The Pearl Times that UPC is one foot in power. (Otherwise, how does an opposition party have its member in cabinet – Norbert Mao style?)

It is said that Minister Aceng wants to give every home in Lira City a jerrycan to help fetch water, store it, use it to maintain hygiene and sanitation.

And, if they want, remember her when it comes to time for voting. Some people say that is voter bribery but others opine that it is not because almost every other politician is doing it. (How shameful!)

Some people say this donation – or what her supporters think is an act of generosity or caring for voters – reminds them of the time during the Covid19 when CocaCola donated 187 jerrycans to help in the fight against the deadly viral disease.

See, it took the Ministry of Health’s Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine to come out and defend CocaCola. Dr Atwine said that CocaCola Uganda had indeed been helping in response efforts and that it had made cash donations. Maybe Dr Aceng should come and explain how the jerrycan donation strategy may work for politicians going into 2026 – like why is it more cost effective than salt or sugar – and how it is important in promoting good health practices (people don’t know?)

But also, why do Minister Aceng branded jerrycans remind Ugandans of jerrycans CocaCola donated during the Covid19 pandemic? We are just asking…

Elsewhere, it should be remembered that voters in Mbarara recently rejected hand hoes from MP Mwesigwa Rukaari of the NRM. (See Details Here).
