JOB ALERT: Education Ministry is Hiring Head teachers, deputy head teachers for Seed Schools. See How to Apply

Up to 184 Jobs Up for Grabs

The Education Service Commission (ESC) under the Ministry of Education and Sports has sent out an internal advert No. 5/2024, calling for applications from suitably qualified education officers to take up roles as head teachers and deputy head teachers for seeds schools.

Open to all eligible applicants, the vacant posts are in ninety-two (92) seed schools built under the Uganda Inter-Government Fiscal Transfer Program (UGIFT), program under the Department of Government Secondary Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports.

ESC Secretary Asuman Lukwago noted that applications should be filled online using the commission’s E-recruitment portal. Deadline for submission is December 06, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

The application process is as follows: For the Account Creation Process, go to the ESC website at www[dot]esc[dot]go[dot]ug and click on the ‘Job Adverts’ hyper link highlighted at the top right corner or, go to any browser of your choice and enter erecruit[dot]esc[dot]go[dot]ug.

Click ‘Sign Up’ button highlighted in the top right corner for you to create your account/ user profile on the system. Fill in the required information in the ‘Create an Applicant’s Account’.

A confirmation of ‘successful creation of account’ will be sent to your email with a confirmation link which will lead you to log in to the system successfully.

For the Application Process, go to ‘View Job Detail’ against the job that you qualify for. Search for the job and study the job detail carefully. To apply for the job, click ‘Apply for Job’ at the right corner. Then submit your application, or save in case you may need to come back to it.

The ESC has advised applicants to create an email address in case they do not have one; scan your passport size photograph (jpg, jpeg, png format); scan your relevant documents; and keep a copy of your application form for future use.

It has listed relevant documents as academic documents, Registration Certificate(s), pay slip of at least six (6) months before the closing date of submission, national and Institutional identity cards, Letters of Appointment, Confirmation and Posting/Transfer. Applicants are advised to click Publications on the ESC website to find the Recommendation Form.

The ESC is hiring 92 head teachers of seed schools and their 92 deputies. That means that each UGIFT Seed Secondary School has been allocated Two (2) Administrators: One (1) Head teacher and One (1) Deputy Head teacher. Head teachers will report to the Commissioner Government Secondary Education, while deputy head teachers will be reporting to head teachers.

SECONDARY SEED SCHOOL HEAD TEACHER REQUIREMENTS

Purpose of the job is to manage and provide technical guidance and leadership in the academic and administrative programmes of the institution. His or his responsibilities and duties are to prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching aids and teach and assess students according to the set timetable; be in charge of overall administration and management of the school; plan for the physical development of the School and Professional development of staff; and to plan, organise, direct and co-ordinate the teaching programmes and activities of staff and students.

Other duties and responsibilities are to ensure proper planning, budgeting and accountability of the school activities and resources in consultation with the Board Governors; to co-ordinate the functions of the Board of Governors and account to them and the Ministry of Education and Sports; to initiate development projects for the school and mobilize resources for their implementation; and to supervise and appraise all the staff and employees of the school and assess their performance.

The others are to direct activities concerning student admissions, provision of supplies and welfare of students; participate in the implementation of Education Sector reforms related to Secondary Education; prepare progress and summary reports for presentation and submission to the Board of Governors and the Ministry of Education and Sports; and establish and maintain relationships with other Educational Institutions.

Other duties and responsibilities are to direct activities concerning students’ admissions, provision of supplies and welfare services; to plan and chair meetings at the school premises; as well as perform any other duty assigned by the relevant authority.

Regarding qualifications and experience, a head teacher of a secondary seed school must have a Master’s Degree in Education or Education Management or Education Planning and Management or a Master’s degree in any teaching subject; as well as an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Education or an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant teaching subject plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognised University I Institution.

He or she must be registered as a graduate teacher with the Ministry of Education and Sports; and must possess a minimum of Twelve (12) years teaching experience, three (3) of which should have been at the level of a Deputy Head teacher in a Government Aided / Owned Secondary School.

SECONDARY SEED SCHOOL DEPUTY HEAD TEACHER REQUIREMENTS

The purpose of the Job is to direct, monitor, evaluate academic and administrative programmes in the school.

The duties and responsibilities are to prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching aids and teach and assess students according to the set timetable; assist the Head teacher in the overall administration and management of the school; and to supervise the non-teaching and support staff.

The other duties and responsibilities are to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of records of material resources, facilities and information services, for efficient accountability; enforce discipline in the school; and organise and assist in the management and implementation of the curriculum.

The others are to ensure integrity of internal and external examinations through effective administration and supervision; prepare the academic plans, programmes and schedules (timetable) of the school; act as the Minute Secretary of the Board of Governors; co-ordinate periodic reviews of the school curriculum; and perform any other duty assigned by the relevant authority.

The qualifications and experience are an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Education or an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant teaching subject plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognised University or Institution.

He or she must have a minimum of nine (9) years teaching experience, three (3) of which should be at the level of a Graduate Teacher in a Government Aided or Owned Secondary School; must be registered as a graduate teacher with the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The ESC added that a Master’s Degree in Education or Education Management or Education Planning and Management or a Master’s degree in any relevant Education field is an added advantage.
