Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports, through the Education Service Commission (ESC), is recruiting nearly 500 teachers to fill vacant positions, including 15 for the position of headteacher of government secondary schools.
Applications will be sent to the ESC which has put out a call for suitably qualified persons express interest in filling the vacant positions which exist in the government secondary schools under the Department of Government Secondary Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports.
The Applications are expected to be filled online using the e-recruitment portal of the Education Service Commission.
The deadline for submission of applications is April 25, 2025 at 11:59 PM.
Applicants have been advised to carefully following instructions for filling and submission of their applications so as not to miss out on the jobs. Those applying through the ESC portal for the first time will be expected to begin by creating an account.
There are 39 jobs for assistant education officers. For the job title of assistant education officer under reference number HRM 48/185/01 Vol. 130 (4), the Ministry of Education and Sports plans to recruit 39 teachers to be paid under Salary Scale U5.
These should be teachers for Entrepreneurship — four vacancies, Physical Education — five vacancies, Christian Religious Education (CRE) — 15 vacancies — eight vacancies, Agriculture — eight vacancies, Fine Art — four vacancies and ICT (Computer) — three vacancies.
The Ministry is also recruiting 15 headteachers under reference number HRM 48/185/01 Vol. 130 (1).
To be paid under salary scale UIE, the 15 will be reporting to the Commissioner, Government Secondary Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Also to be recruited are 442 education officers.
These 442 jobs have been reserved for substantively appointed officers who have served for at least 20 years.
The jobs have been advertised under reference number HRM 48/185/05 Vol. 130(2), and successful applicants will be paid under salary scale U4 and will be reporting to deputy headteachers.
Of these 442 jobs, 37 will go to Mathematics teachers, 78 to teachers of English language, 32 to Physics teachers, 47 to Biology teachers and 40 to Chemistry teachers.
Up to 10 vacancies are meant for teachers of Kiswahili, 43 for teachers of History/Political Education, 10 for teachers of Entrepreneurship, and seven for teachers of Business Studies.
Only five jobs will go to teachers of Physical Education, 41 to teachers of Geography, 30 to teachers of Religious Studies and 17 to teachers of Agriculture.
There are 18 vacancies for teachers of Economics, four for IRE teachers, 16 for teachers of Fine Art and only seven for teachers of ICT (Computer).
Meanwhile, the list with names of over 1,300 teachers who have been shortlisted for government payroll jobs in secondary seed schools for the West Nile sub region or cluster nine has been released ahead of aptitude tests this week. (See the names Here).
The Education Service Commission has also DIRECTLY shortlisted and exempted hundreds of teachers for various subjects from aptitude tests and these will wait for oral interviews only, as reported Here.
