Jafari Basajjabalaba, tycoon Hassan Basajjabalaba’s brother, has been thoroughly defeated by journalist Prosper Twebaze in Bushenyi LCV NRM Primaries, The Pearl Times’ 2026 Decision Desk reports.
President Yoweri Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) went to the polls on Thursday, 24 July 2025 to pick flag bearers for LCV elections due next year.
Prosper Twebaze, hitherto a presenter at BFM Radio in Bushenyi, swept the poll with 66,101 votes, according the declaration of results forms seen by The Pearl Times.
Twebaze’s opponent Jafari Basajjabalaba had only 10,597 votes.
With 86.2 per cent of the votes cast going to his opponent Twebaze, Jafari Basajjabalaba’s defeat was clear.
Bushenyi NRM Electoral Commission (EC) registrar Archangel Barekye declared Twebaze the party’s flag bearer for the 2026 general elections shortly before 7pm.
The Basajjabalaba family’s hopes of influencing politics now remains in Idi Basajja, who is the NRM flagbearer for the Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality MP seat.
