IGP Ochola warns ‘whoever causes chaos will regret why their mother gave birth to them’

Security chiefs, including police boss IGP Martins Okoth Ochola, have warned those planning to engage in electoral violence as Uganda goes to the polls on January 14.

During a joint Security briefing on the preparedness ahead of the general elections held at police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, police chief Ochola warned stern action against perpetrators of electoral violence.

“I would like to assure the whole country that whoever causes trouble will regret why his or her mother gave birth to him or her,” Ochola warned.

The country remains on high alert days to the election whose campaigns have largely seen running battles between security agencies and opposition candidates.

Main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat is the most arrested of the 11.

Also, scores of supporters of singer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine have been arrested for defying Covid19 prevention guidelines as well as EC rules.

The IGP further assured Ugandans police had not received any evidence of voter fraud.

“There are political leaders who are urging their supporters to go in large numbers and monitor the elections on false claims of election fraud which is against the Electoral Commission (EC) guidelines. There is no evidence of voter fraud,” he noted.

EC has urged Ugandans to return home after casting their ballots.
