Donald J Trump has been reelected US President after being in the political cold for four years. Tens of millions of Americans voted to elect Donald Trump the 47th US President.
As the battleground states of Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were called for the Republican candidate by Fox News, it became clear that Donald Trump would return to the White House.
Donald Trump beat Democrat candidate Kamala Harris who was brought into the race after the elderly Joe Biden’s mediocre performance in a presidential debate.
Republicans also won the majority for the Senate.
JD Vance will become the 50th vice president of the US, replacing Kamala Harris who took over from Mike Pence.
Trump becomes the second president to win non-consecutive terms after Grover Cleveland: 1885-1889 and 1893-1897.
Kamala was yet to concede and congratulate Trump on his reelection victory but the 47th president-elect has already delivered his victory speech at West Palm Beach, Florida.
On stage with Trump were his wife Melania, and children: Barron, Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany. His campaign advisors Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita were also on stage with the president-elect and so was House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Trump saluted microblogging site X owner Elon Musk, UFC CEO Dana White, and golfer Bryson DeChambeau.
On picking JD Vance, Trump said, “I took a little heat at the beginning but I knew the brain was a good one. He’s turned out to be a good choice.”
The president-elect praised JD Vance for working hard to “obliterate” propaganda. “I told JD to go into the enemy camp. He just goes OK. Which one? CNN? MSNBC? He’s like the only guy who looks forward to going on and then just absolutely obliterates them,” he said of his vice president.
On his part, JD Vance promised that the Trump comeback would be followed by an economic comeback. “
“I think we just witnessed the greatest political comeback in the history of America. We’re never going to stop fighting for you and your dreams,” he said.
“After the greatest political comeback in history, we’re now going to have the greatest economic comeback too.”
