Here’s What You Need to Join the UPDF as a Scientist in 2024

Uganda’s army, the UPDF, has started on the process of recruiting scientists. The UPDF started receiving applications on its website on June 19 and will close on July 03, meaning those who wish to join the national army as scientists have two weeks to do so.

The UPDF says it will use about one week, from July 04 to July 10 to go through the applications so as to come up with a shortlist of successful candidates.

It will then upload the list of successful applicants and display it on the website from July 11-14.

Successful candidates whose names will be displayed on the UPDF website will then report to the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo for screening – including medical and physical fitness tests – on July 15.

REQUIREMENTS

At Bombo, the successful applicants will be required to present their National Identity card as well as letters from CI and LCII Chairpersons, the GISO and DISO.

Applicants must be of age 18-28.

The army will draw the scientists from three categories. The first category is that of those who have completed their A-levels (Senior Six) and got at least a principal pass in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Geography, plus subsidiaries in their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).

Accepted science combinations are: PEM, PCM, PCB, BCM and MEG.

The second category is that of those with degrees or diplomas in the following science courses or academic programs: Civil Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Engineering and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.

Other accepted degrees and diplomas are in the fields of Electronic Engineering, Cyber Security, Computer Forensics, Computer Science, and Aero Space.

The UPDF will also recruit those with certificates. Under this third category, the army will recruit masons, electricians, painters, specialized fabricators, carpenters, heavy engineering equipment operators and heavy engineering equipment mechanics.

Applicants have been warned against bribery. “No money is required in this process. Recruitment into the UPDF is free,” the UPDF said in a notice.

The announcement for the recruitment of scientists was made after the release of the shortlist for another recruitment exercise for S.4 leavers. See shortlisted candidates per district on the army website.

The recruitment comes after the salaries of UPDF officers were increased. (See Details Here).
