Here’s Bobi Wine’s Plan to Save NUP Diaspora Blogger Lumbuye

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine had spoken out on the arrest, in Turkey, of diaspora blogger Fred Kajubi Lumbuye.

Lumbuye had been on the list of most wanted Ugandans hiding abroad to originate and spread fake news.

Police’s CID says offensive communication and cyber harassment charges against Lumbuye date as back as 2018.

The fake news activist is particularly wanted for reportedly fabricating and disseminating reports on social media claiming President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni had fallen critically ill, been flown to Germany and had later died.

Museveni would later make public appearances alive and healthy, and ordered the arrest of all fake news mongers.

Now, after it emerged August 04 morning that Lumbuye had been arrested at the Ugandan embassy in Istanbul, Bobi Wine reacted, outlining a plan to save his party’s diaspora fake news monger and propagandist.

Bobi Wine suggested people had rights to infringe on others’ freedoms.

As he has previously done, the singer-turned-politician made sweeping general statements about human rights, and urged the West to protect Lumbuye.

“We all must be very concerned about this development, because as we know many Ugandans only feel safe to criticise the regime in Uganda from a safe distance in countries abroad. This news is of great concern to many Ugandans who support freedom both home and abroad,” he alleged.

“The governments of the world ought to protect the rights of political dissidents and exiles who have sought refuge in their countries. Ugandans abroad ought to feel safe.”

On how he planned to save Lumbuye, Bobi Wine talked of engagements with the Ugandan embassy in Istanbul, Turkey, and with NUP diaspora teams.

“For now, we are working around the clock to establish the facts, and I am grateful to all those who are doing everything to support his case, including our diaspora leadership teams,” added Bobi Wine

“Our leadership team at home has also engaged the Turkish Embassy on the matter.”
