Bunyoro Kingdom has petitioned Uganda Police Force (UPF) and the internal affairs ministry over the transfer of Mityana District Police Commander (DPC) Alex Mwine to Hoima following a weekend disruption of Buganda’s Mbogo clan meeting.
DPC Mwine and Wamala Region Commander Bob Kagarura were identified as responsible for the disruption that has seen police political commissar Asan Kasingye deliver IGP Martins Okoth Ochola’s apologies to Mengo, Bishop Emeritus John Baptist Kaggwa and Mbogo clan leaders.
The event, at which participants were teargassed, was convened to give thanks to God over clan head Gajuule Kayiira Kasibante service to the Buganda Kingdom as head of 52 clans for seven years.
IGP Ochola has since transferred the two embattled officers, with Kagarura sent to Bukedi North as commander.
BUNYORO KINGDOM REJECTS HOIMA DPC MWINE
Bunyoro Kingdom Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga told reporters on October 23 that the monarchy had petitioned relevant authorities to rescind the decision to transfer Mwine to Hoima.
Authorities Bunyoro has written to include IGP Ochola and the internal affairs ministry.
“We have rejected the transfer of Mr Alex Mwine to Hoima which is the official seat of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom. We have written to the Inspector General of Police asking him to rescind the transfer of Mwine to Hoima and instead deploy befitting disciplined officers,” Prime Minister Byakutaaga said.
“Basing on what happened in Mityana, he will not respect our culture as Bunyoro. We request for another DPC and not Mwine to be deployed in Hoima. For Mwine must be disciplined.”
