He Went to Collect Rent from Tenant But Didn't Return: Details Emerge on Murder of Former Bushenyi Chief Finance Officer

Abias Asiimwe Baryayanga

Bushenyi, Uganda — Police in Bushenyi have arrested four suspects in connection with the brutal killing of former district Chief Finance Officer Abias Asiimwe Baryayanga.

According to preliminary reports, Baryayanga, a resident of Kyandango in Kashenyi Ward, Ishaka Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, was found dead on Sunday afternoon in one of his rental properties located at Kashenyi Trading Centre.

Investigators say the circumstances surrounding his death point to a particularly gruesome attack. It is alleged that the assailants hacked him before setting his body on fire. The suspects are also believed to have attempted to conceal the crime by hiding his remains in the ceiling of one of the rooms within the building.

It is said tha Abias Asiimwe Baryayanga was an owner of properties in Ishaka. He owned a bar and rental lodges.

But on Saturday, while he was at his bar with friends, he reportedly received a phone call from a tenant. This tenant on call, it is further said, asked him to pick his money for rent.

That was the last time he was seen alive. Unable to get in touch with him, Abias Asiimwe Baryayanga’s family members reported to police.

On the morning of Sunday, April 19, 2026, signs that Abias Asiimwe Baryayanga could have been killed started emerging.

His neighbors discovered blood in a trench. A tenant also appeared with injuries and claimed that they were cuts inflicted on him by glass.

Another suspect was reportedly discovered in a ceiling where he had hidden.

A police sniffer dog helped in the arrest of the first suspect, who was said to be a neighbor. It was this suspect’s confession that led to the arrest of three more suspects believed to have had a hand in the murder.

Police would soon find body parts believed to be of Abias Asiimwe Baryayanga in a sack placed in the ceiling, as well as in a trench.

The shocking discovery has sent waves of fear and concern through the local community, with residents calling for swift justice and improved security in the area.

Police confirmed that four individuals are currently in custody and are being interrogated as part of ongoing investigations. Authorities say efforts are underway to establish the motive behind the killing and whether more could have been involved.

Baryayanga, who previously served as Chief Finance Officer for Bushenyi District, is remembered by those who knew him as a dedicated public servant.

Police have urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as inquiries into the disturbing incident continue.

Meanwhile, a veteran journalist has been shot dead in Kampala, as reported Here.
