Gunmen Shoot Businessman

The territorial Police at Kasese Central Police Station (CPS) is investigating a case of aggravated robbery that happened in Kogere Cell, Scheme Ward, Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality where one person was shot and robbed of Shs1.5m.

The Rwenzori East police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime confirmed the incident and identified the victim as Edson Kisengya, a business operator and an area resident of Kogere Cell.

According to Tumushime, three men armed with one gun dressed in civilian black jackets, masking up to hide their identity attacked Kisengya while at his shop around 8pm on August 16, 2023 night.

The police spokesperson indicated that the victim was rushed to St Paul HC IV for treatment.

SP Tumushime further indicated that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and uniformed military officers responded to the scene. One projectile and ammunition were recovered from the scene.

The crime scene was cordoned off for further examination and documentation by the crime scene officer.

Meanwhile Properties worth unspecified amount of money perished in a fire outbreak.

Police in Katwe Kabatoro are investigating a case of fire outbreak which occurred yesterday evening at Katunguru, Kibati Cell, Kasese District leaving properties worth an unspecified amount of money destroyed.

Nelson Tumushime

Tumushime identified the house owner as Vincent Mugerwa, aged 53, a Munyaruguru by tribe and a fisherman.

According to Tumushime, the fire could have been began from a charcoal stove which was left burning in one of the rooms used as a kitchen.

He further indicated that the house which was burnt by fire was a semi-permanent one with four rooms.

The police spokesperson also noted that fire and rescue service teams were dispatched from Kasese and responded to the scene and made assessments.
