President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has confirmed that the same gun used to kill Maj Muhammed Kiggundu in November 2016 was involved in an assassination attempt against Gen Edward Katumba Wamala.
The June 01 morning attack along Kisota Road in Bukoto-Kisaasi left Gen Katumba Wamala’s daughter and his driver Haruna Kayondo dead.
Delivering his June 04 State of the nation address at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, Museveni confirmed the same gun that killed Kiggundu had come for Katumba Wamala.
”The gun which was used in the Katumba attack is already identified. It’s the same weapon which was used in the Maj Kiggundu assassination,” said Museveni.
But the president complained that the courts had granted the suspects bail, emphasizing he would meet the chief justice to discuss denying capital offences suspects bail.
“A number of those [suspected Kiggundu killers] were arrested but they were released by the courts on bail,” noted Museveni.
“Why somebody who has killed people should be released on bail I cannot understand. Bail for what?”
Examination of the 56 cartridges from the Kisota Road scene of crime confirmed that the sub machine gun that felled Kiggundu was also used in the Katumba Wamala shooting.
On November 26, unknown assailants killed Kiggundu in Masanafu, Kampala, as he headed to a radio show.
