Guidelines for S6 Repeaters Under New Curriculum in 2026

Assessment body Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has issued guidelines for Senior Six repeaters under new curriculum in 2026.

This year, Uneb will administer new competence based Examinations under the new A-level curriculum for the first cohort.

This first cohort is of students who did their O-level final exams under the new competence based lower secondary curriculum.

Last year saw the last cohort of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) under the old curriculum.

With the curriculum and examinations changing starting this year, there were questions on what the fate of Senior Six repeaters would be.

It has now emerged that the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has guided that since there are significant similarities between the old and new curricula, Senior Six repeaters are free to repeat as has been the case over the year. All they have to do is to follow established guidelines.

It has also emerged that for the first two years until the end of 2027, the two curricula will retain similarities that allow students across both.

NCDC will be making changes to the A-level curriculum in a phased manner.

Candidates sitting the 2026 new curriculum exams should expect more scenario based questions.

Uneb has now advised that Senior Six repeaters ought to join at the start of the year so that they can adapt to the changes that are a bit different from the old curriculum.

Meanwhile, Uneb has also issued guidelines for S4 repeaters of 2026 under the new curriculum, see guidelines Here.
