Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has revealed government will consider Individual mobile money transactions via telecoms such as Airtel and MTN to determine who qualifies for Covid19 relief package for the vulnerable urban poor.
After Dr Livingstone Ruhakana Rugunda handed over office to her in Kampala, Nabbanja revealed that people who have made transactions in ranges such as Shs300,000 to Shs500,000.
“There are mechanisms of knowing who a vulnerable person is. [These include one’s] mobile money transactions,” said Nabbanja.
“You can’t be receiving millions on mobile money and say you’re vulnerable.”
Nabbanja also explained they would look at records from the National Identification Registration Authority (Nira), Uganda Bureau of Statistics (Ubos), local authorities and the community members.
The prime minister also said names of unqualifying people on the list of vulnerable poor submitted for Covid19 lockdown relief package.
