First son and chief of defence forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has reacted on Bobi Wine’s Capitol Hill engagements.
Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, announced he fled Uganda a week ago. The National Unity Platform (NUP) principal and 2026 presidential candidate lost to incumbent and Gen Muhoozi’s father Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, according to official Electoral Commission (EC) results.
Bobi Wine disputes results of the 2026 presidential election and went into hiding following the poll. He says he fears for his life. Security officers raided Bobi Wine’s home located in Magere, Wakiso District, after the election. His wife Barbie Kyagulanyi Itungo was at home when the raid happened.
Sometimes, while in hiding, Bobi Wine would share videos or photos of himself in hiding. He says the people of Uganda hid him for two months the way they hid Museveni during the National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war that raged on from 1981 through 1986 and catapulted Museveni to power four decades ago.
Bobi Wine said he would return after his international engagements. For now, he says, he is focused on seeing that Uganda’s international partners stop funding the Museveni regime, including the security agencies accused of human rights violations.
After leaving Uganda, Bobi Wine held engagements at Capitol Hill, the seat of law and policy making where the Senate and House of Representatives convene in Washington DC.
Gen Muhoozi, who had been quiet in recent days, has now reacted on Bobi Wine’s Capitol Hill engagements. First, Muhoozi claims that Bobi Wine has been in the US for two months and that he left the country on January 26.
“Kabobi, should stop telling the world lies. He fled the country on the 26th of January this year. 11 days after the elections,” wrote Gen Muhoozi.
“He has spent 2 months in the United States eating Big Macs while his followers are in jail. Some leader.”
He also reminded Bobi Wine of Uganda’s sovereignty in reaction to the NUP boss’ start of international engagements in Washington DC.
“‘Uncle Tom’ Kabobi. Uganda won it’s independence in 1962! We are a sovereign nation,” wrote Muhoozi.
The issue of sovereignty seems central to the state’s — and Muhoozi’s defences. Muhoozi previously threatened to throw out US ambassador to Uganda for reportedly undermining Uganda’s soverignty and disrespecting Museveni, as reported Here and There.
Bobi Wine’s Capitol Hill engagements have been greeted with mixed reactions with some like Winnie Kiiza defending him, and others like Adonia Ayebare criticizing him. Bobi Wine has also fired back at his critics. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
