Days after he urged President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni to prepare for a peaceful transition of power, former security minister Gen Elly Tumwine says only God will decide on the time when the 76-year-old leader will leave power.
Tumwine used his handover speech as he left the security minister office to Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi to call for a peaceful handover of power to ensure stability.
But Tumwine now says he can neither determine nor tell when Museveni should leave power.
But God will choose when someone should succeed Museveni.
“It not for me to tell Museveni to hand over power,” Tumwine said.
“Only God will decide when he [Museveni] will hand over power to another person.”
The former minister suggested Museveni still has some years to rule Uganda.
He also insisted the president is still his mentor, role model, inspiration and hero.
