FULL LIST: See How Much Money Your District, Municipality, City Will Get in the Next Financial Year Starting July 2022

All Ugandan districts, municipal councils (municipalities) and cities will share Shs5.1tn of the country’s national budget for the 2022-2023 Financial Year which starts next month.

On June 15, Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED), read the budget for the next financial year which is just two weeks away.

Government is expected to spend Shs48.1tn to spur further economic recovery as the country reels from the negative effects of the Covid19 pandemic. Kasaija explained that the budget strategy for the fiscal year 2022/23 and over the medium term seeks to restore economic activity to the pre-pandemic levels and subsequently, accelerate the pace of socio-economic transformation.

He further noted that in the financial year closing at the close of this month, there has been buoyant recovery and resilience of the economy induced by government’s deliberate and prudent economic policies. That Uganda’s GDP per capita has increased to $1,046 in current prices, which is equivalent to Shs3.7m per person per year

Of the Shs48.tn expected to be spent on and injected in the economy starting July 01, Shs5.1tn has been set aside for local governments: districts, municipal councils (municipalities) and cities (city councils).

Meanwhile, in his budget speech read on Tuesday, Finance Minister Kasaija announced that the salaries of science teachers, scientists and health workers will be increased in a ‘very big’ way starting July 2022. (Read Story Here).

But arts teachers have today started their strike demanding salary increment, protesting ‘discriminatory salary enhancement,’ and making it clear to Museveni’s government that ‘all teachers matter.’ (Read Story HERE).
