Full list: Over 1,000 fail Makerere law pre-entry exam

A total of 1,024 candidates who sat Makerere University’s Bachelor’s of Law preentry examinations for the 2020-2021 academic year failed, results released by the office of the academic registrar have indicated.

The university conducted the examination on October 03.

Overall, the failure rate is as high as 74 per cent. This means that 26 out of every 100 who wrote the exam did not qualify for admission to the prestigious law school.

“Candidates who scored 50 per cent and above passed the examination,” said the office of the academic registrar in a statement.

“Those interested in admission to the Bachelor of Laws on Government Sponsorship must have indicated (applied for) Bachelor of Laws as one of their choices when filling the form for Government sponsorship in November, December 2019 and January 2020.”

Of the 1,166 A-level leavers who sat the exam, only 305 scored 50 per cent. The rest, 861, failed. The highest mark was 76 per cent and the lowest 10 per cent.

In the degree holders category, only 26 of the 76 who sat the pre-entry passed (scored 50 per cent and above). The rest, 50, failed. The highest mark was 65 per cent and the lowest 30 per cent.

For the diploma holders category, 117 candidates sat. Of these, only 15 passed – the rest, 102, failed.

In the mature age batch, only 17 sat. Of these, only six managed 50 per cent. The rest failed.

In total, 1,024 of 1,376 candidates, translating in 74 per cent, failed. Only 26 per cent passed.
