2026 Elections

Five NBS TV Presenters Resign to Contest for MP Seats in 2026

NBS has said goodbye to five of its employees who have shown interest in joining active politics in the general elections 2026. As the five NBS presenters resign to contest for MP seats in 2026, the station seems to have a backup plan to replace them and keep the television station competing with rivals.

The resignations followed concerns that the employees would not be as objective and as independent of the political parties to which they subscribe, particularly the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).

The five include Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, who has been a news anchor and host of the Tuesday night Barometer Akasameeme. Mukasa is now seeking the Nansana Municipality MP seat.

The seat is currently occupied by Hannington Wakayima Musoke of Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s NUP. Mukasa and Wakayima are expected to battle it out for the flag.

“Best wishes to you, Zambaali Bulasio as you take the next step toward standing for office in Nansana Municipality. Your time with us has contributed to our broader mission of meaningful public engagement,” said Next Media, the parent company of NBS TV.

Also leaving the station is Jonah Byakutaaga Wamana, hitherto a show host on NBS Sport and Next Radio who is seeking the Hoima City East Parliamentary seat, currently occupied by Patrick Isingoma Mwesigwa who ran as an independent candidate.

“Best of luck to Jonah Byakutaaga as he runs for Member of Parliament, Hoima City East. His time with us has been characterized by a shared commitment to informing the public and shaping sports dialogue,” wrote Next Media.

Charles Mwanguhya Mpagi, a popular and experienced host of political shows, wants to become MP for Burahya Constituency Kabarole District after failing in the previous election. The seat is currently occupied by Stephen Kagwera Kasaija of Museveni’s NRM.

“Wishing Charles Mwanguhya success as you seek to represent Burahya Constituency. You have been part of our efforts to spark important national conversations through our shows. All the best on your new journey, Charles!” wrote Next Media as it bade farewell to Mwanguhya.

Also bidding farewell to NBS TV was Robert Sekidde Mpagi aka Tuff B, an entertainment show host, who wants to become MP for Makindye East, a seat currently occupied by NUP’s Derrick Nyeko.

“We extend our best wishes to Tuff B in his bid for Member of Parliament, Makindye East. His journey at Next Media has been one of growth and purpose. Thank you for the time spent informing to transform with us,” Next Media said of Tuff B, a long serving presenter.

The other employee who has resigned to try her luck in politics is Victoria Bagaaya, who hopes to contest for the seat of woman MP Fort Portal Tourism City. Irene Linda Mugisha of the NRM is the current MP.

“We wish Victoria Bagaaya all the best in her endeavors of standing for the position of Woman MP, Fort Portal Tourism City. Her time with us has been part of a shared journey of informing and transforming communities,” Next Media said of Bagaaya.

Elsewhere in politics, in Mbarara City, MP Mbwatekamwa wants to unseat mayor Robert Kakyebezi Mugabe and the two have been engaged in a war of words so far. (See Details and watch video Here, There and Over There).
