Janet Museveni
Uganda’s First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, has broken her public silence for the first time since March 2026, issuing an emotional message of gratitude and faith following weeks of nationwide concern over her health.
In a brief but heartfelt social media statement, Mrs Museveni thanked Ugandans for their prayers and birthday wishes, declaring that her recovery is proof of God’s power.
“It’s me, Janet Museveni. It is a confirmation that the God I talk about is a living God. He is not a myth, He lives!” she wrote.
Her message marks her first public communication since her prolonged absence from the public eye sparked widespread speculation and prompted an outpouring of prayers from religious leaders, political figures and ordinary Ugandans across the country.
Mrs Museveni began by expressing gratitude to her husband, President Yoweri Museveni, whom she affectionately referred to as “Mzee,” for leading the nation in prayer.
“I must therefore thank Uganda, beginning with Mzee, who has prayed with the whole nation. I praise God for leading us to know Him. Thank you all for coming out publicly to pray for me,” she said.
She also thanked Ugandans for the overwhelming support shown during her illness and on her recent birthday.
“Thank you for all those continuous prayers and also for the kind birthday wishes. Thank you for letting me know just how much I am loved,” she added.
The statement comes just days after President Museveni disclosed that his wife had been unwell but was recovering steadily. The President had appealed to Ugandans to remain calm and continue praying for her, saying her condition was improving.
The First Lady’s latest message appears to confirm that she is on the path to recovery, while reaffirming her long-held Christian faith, which has been central to her public life for decades.
Known for frequently speaking about the role of faith in leadership and personal life, Janet Museveni used her first public remarks in months not to dwell on her illness, but to testify about what she described as God’s faithfulness and to appreciate the prayers offered on her behalf.
Her statement has since attracted widespread reactions online, with thousands of Ugandans welcoming her return to public communication and thanking God for what many described as answered prayers.
Although Mrs Museveni did not reveal details about the illness she has been battling or indicate when she will resume her official duties, her message is expected to reassure supporters who have closely followed updates on her condition in recent weeks.
Questions had swirled around over Mrs. Museveni’s condition after she missed President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony following the disputed January 2026 presidential election. Her absence from one of the most important events in Uganda’s political calendar sparked widespread discussion across social media and political circles, particularly because she has long been one of the most visible figures in government and at state events.
For the swearing-in ceremony, Museveni was accompanied by Natasha. Read more interesting facts about Museveni’s favorite child Natasha Here and There.
The concerns deepened when she was also absent during key stages of the vetting process for cabinet appointments and subsequent government functions.
