FINALLY: Key LC 1 and LC 2 Election Dates Announced

KAMPALAThe Electoral Commission (EC) has released the long-awaited programme for the conduct of Administrative Unit elections at Village (LC I) and Parish (LC II) levels, setting out a tightly packed timetable running from late June to mid-August 2026.

EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi confirmed that all preparatory, nomination, campaign, and polling activities will proceed in phases beginning 22nd June 2026.

The exercise covers the recruitment of election officials, compilation of voters’ registers, nomination of candidates, campaigns, and final polling days for both LC I and LC II leadership structures.

LC I (Village Level) Programme

According to the schedule, the process at Village level begins with the recruitment of Sub County and Parish Supervisors on 25th June 2026.

This is followed by the recruitment of Village Election Officials running from 22nd June to 1st July 2026.

The Commission will then proceed with the display of names of recruited Village Election Officials at Parish/Ward level on 2nd July 2026, ahead of training sessions scheduled for 3rd July 2026.

From there, attention shifts to voter verification, with the compilation of Village General Voters’ Registers set for 6th to 10th July 2026.

The cut-off date for compiling the Village (LC I) Voters’ Register is 10th July 2026, after which the Commission will display the register for public scrutiny between 13th and 14th July 2026.

Aspiring candidates will receive nomination forms at Parish level from 9th to 14th July 2026.

Nomination of candidates for Village LC I Chairperson positions will then take place at Sub County, Town, and Division headquarters between 15th and 19th July 2026.

Campaign activities for LC I Chairperson hopefuls are scheduled to run from 20th to 27th July 2026, culminating in polling on 28th July 2026.

On polling day, voting, counting, declaration of winners, and subsequent approval of LC I executive committees by Village Council Meetings will be conducted.

LC II (Parish/Ward Level) Programme

Immediately after the LC I exercise, the Commission will shift focus to Parish/Ward (LC II) elections.

The process begins with the compilation of Parish/Ward voters’ registers on 29th July 2026, followed by the display of the register from 30th to 31st July 2026.

Nomination of candidates for Parish/Ward Chairperson positions is scheduled for 3rd August 2026.

Campaigns for LC II Chairperson aspirants will then run from 4th to 9th August 2026, ahead of polling day set for 10th August 2026.

Commission Calls for Participation

The Electoral Commission urged all stakeholders, including voters, candidates, and election officials, to actively participate in the process and adhere to the established guidelines to ensure a smooth and credible exercise.

Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the Commission Chairperson, signed off the announcement, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to delivering the electoral roadmap as planned.

The release effectively sets the stage for a busy electoral period at the grassroots level, as Uganda moves into another cycle of local leadership selection.
