Fearless Kakwenza Tells US Government: Give us Guns to Remove Museveni

Ugandan novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija has told the US government to consider giving guns to citizens in the impoverished East African nation to enable them remove President Yoweri Museveni’s government.

Currently exiled in Europe, Kakwenza uses his social media to speak freely against the regime he ran away. Kakwenza escape from Uganda a few years ago as the state attempted to prosecute him over his works.

He’s now in support of a group called the Coalition of Exiled Ugandans who in a statement – Kisangani Declaration – issued on  October 5 after a meeting in Kisangani, the capital of Orientale Province in eastern DR Congo, said they would use all means to end the regime in Kampala.

“Desirous of seeing equity and justice flourish in our country, we have gathered at Kisangani, DR Congo, and founded the Coalition of Exiled Ugandans,” Coalition of Exiled Ugandans’ statement read.

“Our singular mission is to mobilise and organise other exiled Ugandans to return home by all means necessary.”

Kakwenza’s request for guns began after US secretary of State Antony Blinken sent a message congratulating Uganda on her 62nd independence anniversary.

“On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Uganda on the 62nd anniversary of Uganda’s independence, and wish them a happy independence day. We take this occasion to commemorate our partnership and celebrate the progress we have made addressing regional security challenges, improving public health outcomes, spurring mutually beneficial economic investment, and investing in education for new generations of Ugandans,” Secretary Blinken’s message read.

“The United States looks forward to continuing to support the Ugandan people as they work to build an inclusive, democratic, and prosperous future.”

In response, Kakwenza told Washington to just send guns to Ugandans willing to end Museveni’s rule. In his view, the regime in Kampala comprises criminals.

“The people of Uganda need guns to liberate themselves from imperialists and Rwakitura criminals currently masquerading as a government,” Kakwenza noted.

“Your continued cosying up with the despot for geopolitical expediency is proliferating dependence, not facilitating independence!”

Kakwenza escaped from Uganda a few years ago after being tortured by security officers, including the claim that he was made to undress so they could laugh at his ‘big cassava.’ Kakwenza also claimed he had eaten transport money from Museveni’s agents and refused to see him.
