A European Union (EU) delegation has visited Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters at Makerere Kavule in the Ugandan capital Kampala.
The EU officials were led by their head of mission to Uganda, Jan Sadek. The EU delegation and NUP leaders held a closed-door meeting with the NUP leadership.
It was not clear what the two parties discussed. But in previous meetings, they have discussed the state of democracy and human rights observance in the country in light of security handling of elections and civic space.
Uganda is headed to elections next year. Already, the Ugandan opposition is complaining of witch hunt and persecution at the hands of state security agencies.
At the moment, Bobi Wine’s bodyguards, including Edward Ssebuufu aka Eddie Mutwe, Achileo Kivumbi, Gaddafi Mugumya and Smart Wakabi, are currently on remand on allegations of robbery.
On May, 13 more NUP members arrested at a football match in Masaka were arraigned before the Masaka Magistrate’s Court and charged with stealing a mobile phone worth Shs100,000, and Shs100,000.
“Aggravated Robbery is the new tool in a dictator Museveni’s handbook. Most comrades who are arrested for political reasons end up being slapped with this offence- just like comrades Achileo Kivumbi, Eddie Mutwe, Gaddafi Mugumya and Smart Wakabi!” wrote Bobi Wine.
Eddie Mutwe told Bobi Wine of how he was injected with a strange drug, and other ways in which he has been tortured. (See Details Here and There).
Bobi Wine has also written to Banyankore and Bakiga elders telling them to speak against the tribal actions and statements of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba before it is too late, while Bobi Wine’s wife Barbie Kyagulanyi condemned tribalism in a keynote address at Rubaga Cathedral.
