Eddie Mutwe Health Condition: He’s Rotting Away with Fresh Torture Wounds, Says Bobi Wine after Visiting Bodyguard

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has said that his remanded bodyguard Edward Ssebuufu aka Eddie Mutwe is rotting away and is in a very terrible situation.

Speaking after he, NUP officials and family members to visited Eddie Mutwe, and other bodyguards remanded at Masaka Prison, Bobi Wine said Eddie Mutwe should be in hospital receiving treatment and not in prison.

Abducted over a week ago and held in Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s basement for days, Eddie Mutwe was charged with robbery, ass@ult, and malicious damage to property, in a Masaka court on Monday.

Bobi Wine said Eddie Mutwe had ‘almost fresh torture wounds.”

“His body is full of fresh wounds. Handcuffs cut through his arms. We know that they are keeping him in prison so that the world does not see the situation he is in,” said Bobi Wine after visiting Eddie Mutwe.

“[Eddie Mutwe] says he is unable to sleep. He is currently in the prison hospital.”

He asked Ugandans of goodwill home and abroad to demand for the release of Eddie Mutwe so he can get specialized treatment.

He also noted that Eddie Mutwe was ‘very badly’ tortured, and that Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba had personally come to his torture chamber on the third day.

“He told us he was waterboarded. They tied his face with a towel and poured water on him to create the effect of drowning. He was electrocuted. He was made to sit in a basin of water where they inserted live cables,” narrated Bobi Wine.

“He says that when Muhoozi walked in, they pulled the blindfold from his face, and he saw the CDF [Gen Muhoozi]. The CDF then asked him in Runyankore language, ‘Amagara?’ [meaning ‘how’s life?’]. Eddy Mutwe, not understanding the greeting, responded in Luganda language, ‘Tebannaba kugampa’ [They are yet to give it to me]. That is how the beatings started.”

That Muhoozi indeed beat Mutwe and forced him to salute President Yoweri Museveni’s portrait everyday and given a t-shirt with Museveni’s picture.

Bobi Wine described the charges against Eddie Mutwe and his other bodyguards.

He also clarified that NTV Uganda reporter Gertrude Mutyaba’s name was mistakenly put on the list of Masaka reporters who the National Unity Platform believes are being used to engineer charges against Mutwe and others.

Meanwhile, former army commander Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu has warned Museveni to quickly do something about his son Gen Muhoozi before it is too late for him and Uganda, while justice minister Norbert Mao has suggested that Eddie Mutwe should be unconditionally released.
