Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has told Kenyans not to drag him into their nation’s politics, saying he was only interested in the East African Community (EAC) regional integration for the socio-economic transformation.
President Museveni, Uganda’s long time leader, was one of the several heads of state and government that attended the inaguaration of Kenya’s fifth President William Samoei Ruto at Kasarani on Tuesday, September 13.
Museveni reminded the people of gathered at Kasarani and watching via television channels that Africa’s prosperity will come from commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT.
“For the EAC in particular, we need to work on the issue of regional markets to ensure our people’s prosperity,” said the 77-year old Ugandan leader.
Claiming that he doesn’t normally watch television stations of neighboring countries except during election time, Gen Museveni narrated how he had watched a show under the KTN News special election coverage dubbed Kivumbi.
The president said that the hosts and guests seemed to be talking about much Kenyan politics such power sharing instead of focusing on regional integration.
“What I found a problem was they were not talking about East Africa integration, only Kenya. In order for East African countries to catch up with United States, they should look at the regional market,” Museveni said.
He also called for politics that focuses on issues.
“The politics of identity vs the politics of issues. You are talking of distributing resources, where will these resources come from. Where does prosperity come from?” he posed.
As Museveni was still narrating his experience watching Standard Media Group’s KTN News Kivumbi 2022, some Kenyans gathered at Kasarani started making noise.
In response, Museveni told them not to involve him in their internal affairs and politics.
It should be remembered that during the election period, Museveni had given an unclear answer on whom.he was supporting, between William Samoei Ruto and Raila Odinga. (Read Story Here).
