UNAIDS Executive Director Winnie Byanyima and Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Adonia Ayebare have again resurrected their war of words. This time, the exchanges have been characterized by allegations on accountability at Ayebare’s office and how staff want Byanyima to leave. Here is the crossfire as it unfolded:
Adonia Ayebare: I have great respect for [Winnie Byanyima]; she is an old friend of mine. However, my responsibility is to ensure that international civil servants or anyone else treat my country and its leaders fairly.
Winnie Byanyima: Mr. Adonia Ayebare, you are an apologist for the Museveni regime and a promoter of his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the army commander. While I fight to free my husband Dr Kizza Besigye from their grip, you dare call yourself my friend? How deluded. Please [Stay In Your Lane].
Adonia Ayebare: Winnie, I am not going into a pi*sing much with you again, your shameless with all what I did to help you both personally and professionally. God is there. Please stay in your lane UNAIDS where for your information a lot of staff can’t wait to see your back due to your poor leadership.
Winnie Byanyima: Mr Adonia Ayebare, are you ok? You know that I will not get into how I and my family have supported you. You seem to have a psychological need to be owed. Why don’t you see a therapist? You should also be worried about accounting for funds at the Uganda Mission in NY. Need I say more?
Adonia Ayebare: Winnie, I don’t want to go into the sewer with you, I don’t manage funds at Uganda Mission there is an accounting officer, I do strategic things. This is the last time you are hearing from me.
This is not the first time Winnie Byanyima and Adonia Ayebare have been engaged in a war of words. They have previously been involved in a bitter exchange over how Museveni reportedly helped Winnie Byanyima get a UN job. (See Details Here and There).
Winnie Byanyima has also previously come out to reveal how she met Museveni in Switzerland, as reported Here.
