Bobi Wine and Museveni
Former MP Odonga Otto has alleged that a diplomat approached Bobi Wine for secret talks with Museveni.
Since the 2026 election which President Yoweri Museveni, the incumbent 81-year-old Ugandan ruler, won according to official Electoral Commission (EC) results, there have been rumors on secret talks between the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman and his main opponent Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine.
Currently outside of the country, Bobi Wine fled Uganda weeks ago after two months of hiding following the election that he insists was rigged in favour of Museveni. In the US, Bobi Wine had had engagements at Capitol Hill in Washington DC. His recent engagement was with a democratic congressman as reported Here.
He has revealed that he plans to return to Uganda to continue with the struggle against the Museveni’s regime of over 40 years.
But according to Odonga Otto, a former firebrand MP who has been in the political cold for some years now, a diplomat approached Bobi Wine for secret talks with Museveni.
“I know of a foreign diplomat who has reached out to Bobi Wine for dialogue with the government. It’s only that these discussions are held behind the scenes because the foot soldiers are radical,” Odonga Otto told NBS Morning Breeze.
Otto also accused the opposition of being immature and of shunning dialogue with the Museveni regime, further claiming that “the radicalised version of Uganda’s opposition politicians is spoiling Uganda’s politics.”
“I think there is lack of political maturity amongst opposition actors. When I joined Parliament for the first time, we had mentors in the house who guided us. Opposition isn’t supposed to fight the government but to check the government to make it stronger,” he further said.
“The electorates are to blame. People think that being in Opposition means you are an enemy of NRM.”
As of today, The Pearl Times has not confirmed any formal and direct talks between Bobi Wine and Museveni. In fact, it appears that the political relationship between the two leading Ugandan politicians remains one of a cat and mouse.
While Bobi Wine accuses the regime of detaining his supporters, Museveni accuses the opposition of a plot to destabilize Uganda.
Bobi Wine recently addressed reports of secret talks with Museveni amidst his international engagements, Here and There.
