Incoming reports say President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his government have lifted the ban on social media giant Facebook.
Government banned the social media site in Uganda following the removal of accounts belonging to supporters of the ruling NRM party, some of whom were staff at a government ministry. (Read story here).
Museveni had sworn that Ugandans can do without Facebook. But negotiations between the social media giant and government continued.
Now, reports claim that a high level committee handling the matter has resolved to lift the ban on Facebook.
That government is expected to officially announce the lifting the ban that has lasted one year.
Meanwhile, Museveni’s government’s war with social media giants may be far from over. Months ago Twitter banned some alleged NRM and pro-Museveni propaganda accounts. (See story here).
