A meat-sharing exercise in Rubirizi District ended in tragedy after a man was allegedly stabbed to death during a violent dispute over beef that had been donated by a local Member of Parliament.
The deceased, identified as Joachim Tumwebaze, 50, a resident of Mubanda D Village in Ryeru Sub-county, was reportedly killed on Thursday night following a disagreement that erupted as residents divided meat from a cow donated by Bunyaruguru County MP Benjamin Cadet.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, a group of villagers had gathered to receive portions of the donated meat when tempers flared over how the beef was being shared among those present.
What started as a disagreement quickly turned into a physical confrontation between Tumwebaze and another man believed to be in his twenties.
Witnesses said the suspect allegedly grabbed a sharp tool that had been used during the slaughtering process and attacked Tumwebaze, inflicting fatal injuries.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 9pm, sending shockwaves through the community that had gathered for what was intended to be a charitable distribution.
Police in the Greater Bushenyi region confirmed the killing and launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deadly altercation.
Residents said the meat had been delivered in the area by one of the legislator’s aides before the disagreement broke out.
Authorities are now pursuing the suspect as investigations continue into the fatal incident that turned a community donation into a deadly confrontation.
The killing adds to a growing list of violent disputes arising from disagreements over food and property in different parts of the country.
