Daycare Centre Children Killed by Christopher Okello Onyum Identified

Uganda Police Force (UPF) has released names of children killed by Christopher Okello Onyum. Okello killed four children at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program, a daycare centre situated in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division in Kampala City. 

According to UPF spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, at about 11am on  Thursday, April 2, 2026, Police in Ggaba responded to a distress call reporting a man who had attached children at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program.

Police officers swung into action and arrested the man, who has been identified as Christopher Okello Onyum, who is aged 39.

Okello killed four children at the daycare centre.

Police has identified the deceased as Gideon Eteku, a male juvenile who was about two years old; Alungat Kaise, a female who was about two years old; Ignatius Sserwange, a male juvenile who was about three years; and Ryan Odeke, a male who was about two years.

“All victims were pupils of the same daycare facility,” added Rusoke.

The police spokesperson said detectives were quizzing Christopher Okello Onyum to understand the motive behind the act.

“The suspect is currently under interrogation as investigations continue to establish his motive, background, and any other relevant circumstances surrounding this heinous crime,” further noted Rusoke.

“The Uganda Police Force extends its deepest condolences to the affected families and assures the public that all efforts are underway to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.”
