Novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija is out of prison, his lawyer Eron Kiiza and friend Doreen Nyanjura, also deputy lord mayor for Kampala, have confirmed.
On January 11, court charged Rukirabashaija with disturbing President Museveni and son’s peace. (Read story here).
He had been in detention since December 28 when he was arrested from Kisaasi, Kampala after he reportedly attacked President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Twitter (Read story here).
On January 25, Buganda Road Court chief magistrate Dr Douglas Singiza granted bail to Rukirabashaija.
His lawyers led by Counsel Kiiza relied on a Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) medical report which shows shocking revelations about the torture of the Muhoozi critic. (Read the story here).
Dr Singiza ordered the release of the novelist after granting him a Shs500,000 cash bail, and bonding his four sureties at Shs10m non-cash each.
However, suspected security operatives quickly rearrested Rukirabashaija.
Now, according to Nyanjura, Kakwenza was dumped at his Iganga home early January 26.
“I have confirmed from Kakwenza’s wife that Kakwenza was dumped at his gate in Iganga in the wee hours of the morning, Kakwenza is unwell and currently receiving medication. Thank you all for your efforts. Aluta continua,” said the deputy lord mayor.
