Gen Muhoozi has released detained General Johnson Namanya after a friendly meeting, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has said. Brig Gen Johnson Namanya Abaho, the Commissioner Citizenship and Passport Management at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, was arrested and detained days ago.
A senior officer in the UPDF, Brig Gen Johnson Namanya Abaho had been detained at the Kasenyi military facility, according to reports.
He had been arrested on orders of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), first son and senior presidential advisor on special operations.
Gen Muhoozi is said to be on a mission to rid the UPDF of corruption.
The release of Brig Gen Johnson Namanya Abaho was announced by Col Chris Magezi, the acting defence and UPDF spokesperson, on March 31, 2026.
Muhoozi and Namanya held a meeting that Magezi described as “amicable and friendly.” Namanya was “cleared of all allegations leveled against him” by Muhoozi.
He is expected to return to work after being cleared of the charges.
