Kampala City lawyer and politician Abed Nasser Mudyobole has been abducted by heavily armed security operatives, the Uganda Law Society (ULS) has said.
Mudyobole, also a former Iganga Municipality candidate on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket in the previous election, was ‘abducted’ on May 16, 2025.
ULS vice president Anthony Asiimwe says police – the agency charged with keeping law and order – was yet to provide information on Nasser Mudyobole’s whereabouts.
“The Radical New Bar Vice President of the Uganda Law Society (ULS), Mr. Asiimwe Anthony, regrets to report that the whereabouts of our colleague, Adv. Abed Nasser Mudyobole are presently unknown,” a statement from Uganda Law Society read in part.
“Preliminary inquiries with the police have so far yielded no results.”
ULS further noted that family members had said that Abed Nasser Mudyobole “was forcibly disappeared by heavily armed, drone-operating security operatives yesterday, at about 5:00pm.”
Family members further noted that Abed Nasser Mudyobole was ‘abducted’ from Gold Rock Hotel in Kyaliwajjala, Kira Municipality of Wakiso district “where he had gone to meet a client.”
Uganda Law Society has condemned the abduction of Advocate Abed Nasser Mudyobole and other Ugandans, urging security agencies to present Mudyobole and other abducted citizens.
“We condemn the rampant practice of enforced disappearance and task Government of Uganda, Police CID, UPDF and Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) to determine the fate and whereabouts of our colleague Adv. Abed Nasser Mudyobole and all those who have been disappeared,” the law society noted.
“If the authorities genuinely don’t know where people are being held, they need to make more effort to find out. If they do, they must release them, or provide details of where they died.”
It also observer that “every disappearance violates a range of human rights” such as the right to security and dignity of person, right not to be subjected to torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, right to humane conditions of detention, right to a legal personality, right to a fair trial, right to a family life and a right to life (if the disappeared person is k!lled or their fate is unknown).
Asiimwe has now urged lawyers to review their security measures, noting that they are possible targets.
“Enforced disappearances are currently a serious problem in many parts of Uganda. Political activists, human rights defenders, relatives of those already disappeared, key witnesses and lawyers seem to be particular targets,” wrote Asiimwe.
“The overwhelming majority of the victims are men who are frequently tortured, or even killed, during incommunicado detention.
All Advocates are urged to stay alert, beware of your surroundings, and review your personal security plans. Report unscheduled travel to your family and colleagues.”
There has been at least three abductions in the past 72 hours, including that of another Bobi Wine bodyguard and former police CID spokesperson. (See Details Here and There).
Meanwhile, a NUP mobilizer who has been ‘abducted’ alongside Eddie Mutwe was dumped near Namboole stadium after spending two weeks inside a suspected torture chamber. (See Details Here).
