Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo: Plan B dangerous – regardless of Supreme Court outcome

Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo has used the Supreme Court pre-hearing session of Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s petition to caution the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership and supporters against any alternative means of expressing their dissatisfaction with the results from the January 14 presidential election, largely labelled ‘Plan B.’

Owiny-Dollo warned that any Plan B like action could be destructive such attempts in post-independence Uganda have shown.

He reminded both parties to stop thinking they were bigger than the Ugandan nation.

“Let us act responsibly. This country belongs to all of us: I don’t own it more than anybody else nor does anybody own it more than I do,” noted the Chief Justice.

“We can build it together or destroy it together.”

He added that the case before the temple of justice was a matter of national importance and not just about Museveni and Bobi Wine.

The chief justice also told both parties it was not time to discuss the merits and demerits of the case in social and mainstream media but to prepare for a showdown of wit and arguments before the Supreme Court.

“You believe in justice: that is why you came to court. If you go to social media, give facts, not disparaging comments.”
