National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine claims Fufa dismissed midfielder Khalid Aucho from the Uganda Cranes camp over politics, not indiscipline.
On March 19, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (Fufa) announced it had dismissed Aucho for refusing to come to the residential training camp.
Fufa also said Aucho had refuses to board the vehicle sent to pick him up from the airport.
“Aucho refused to board the official means of transport organized to pick him from Entebbe International Airport to the team camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel-Kisaasi and has not even reported to camp since he arrived in the country,” claimed Fufa.
The football federation further noted Aucho would return to Egypt to play for his club there.
“The player’s club Misr El Makkasa and Egypt Football Association have duly been informed about the decision and a return air ticket has been issued to him to travel back to Egypt,” Fufa added in a Friday statement.
Aucho will miss Cranes Afcon qualifier games against Burkina Faso and Malawi.
But Bobi Wine claims Aucho is a victim of state persecution, not indiscipline.
And the singer-turned-politician presented screenshots to prove his allegations.
“FUFA, our football authority, claims that Khalid was dismissed for alleged indiscipline. But it appears, as can be deduced from these screenshots, that there is more to Khalid’s fate than meets the eye,” wrote Bobi Wine.
“The Midfielder has in recent times distinguished himself as an athlete who is conscious of the injustice orchestrated against his fellow citizens by the State and its institutions.”
As far as he is concerned, Bobi Wine thinks Fufa is punishing Aucho for expressing his political opinions.
“He has been using his social media channels to speak out against this injustice, and to sympathise with the victims. It is unfortunate that he is now the latest victim of the State’s persecution of those that stand with the people.”
