National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine says his police guards have been dismissed by police court for ‘helping him escape.’ Bobi Wine police guards, nine in number, had been assigned to escort him during his presidential campaigns.
The nine appeared before the Police Court and “they were all dismissed from the Uganda Police Force with disgrace,” according to Bobi Wine.
“We understand that in addition to being dismissed, officer Kigenyi and another were taken back to detention at the police station at the Railway grounds and are still being interrogated!” he added.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader says the nine police officers were charged with “neglect of duty” and that the “regime claims that they assisted me in escaping from my own home.”
Describing the allegations as “crazy,” Bobi Wine described the officers as “professional.” He claims these were withdrawn on election day: January 15. He says the regime is looking for someone to blame for failing to find him.
“By the time I left my home on the 16th when the military raided, they were no longer on duty,” Bobi Wine added.
“But now, they’re being hounded, persecuted, and punished because the regime cannot live with the embarrassment of not being able to locate me for two months. They’re looking for anyone to blame. In any event, these officers were deployed to protect me and not to spy on me. But this is what Museveni has turned all institutions into! He expects them to do everything illegal, criminal, or immoral to sustain his criminal enterprise. Choosing to act professionally has landed very many civil servants in trouble.”
UPDF has said that they are not looking for Bobi Wine and that the army is not interested in him despite mounting checkpoints around Kampala, only for reports to emerge that his police guards had been arrested, as reported Here, There and Over There.
Meanwhile, deputy police chief James Ocaya says police will only leave Bobi Wine’s Magere home when he comes back, as reported Here.
