Court in Iganga has released presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine on bail.
Bobi Wine has been detained at Nalufenya in Jinja since November 18 when police picked him from Luuka District.
He was in the district to campaign. His colleague Patrick Oboi Amuriat of main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) was arrested in Gulu city but released late in the night.
The arrests sparked off protests in which 28 people were killed in confrontation between security agencies and rioters, according to latest figures released by police on November 20.
In court, Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Ssegona argued for Bobi Wine’s release.
Bobi Wine faces charges of engaging in activities likely to spread an infectious disease.
He is accused of holding mass rallies in disregard of guidelines agreed with the Electoral Commission (EC).
One of the terms of the bail is adhering to Covid19 prevention guidelines, including restricting meetings to 200 participants as guided by the Ministry of Health.
He was bailed on Sha1m non-cash bail, and each of his sureties Shs5m.
Bobi returns to court on December 18.
