BOBI WINE HIDING: Gen Muhoozi Apologizes to US Government after Shocking Allegations Against Embassy

First son and chief of defence forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has apologized to the United States government after speaking with Washington’s ambassador to Kampala.

Gen Muhoozi had accused the US embassy in Kampala of coordinating the escape and hiding of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine has been in hiding since he lost the January 15 2026 presidential election to President Yoweri Museveni.

Gen Muhoozi had even suspended UPDF’s cooperation with the US embassy in Kampala, including the army’s work in Somalia.

“Fellow Ugandans, because of the present situation where an opposition leader kidnapped himself and is missing, and according to our best intelligence, did all this in coordination with the current administration at the US Embassy in our country,” he wrote.

“We, as UPDF, suspend ALL cooperation with the current administration at the US Embassy in Kampala. This includes our work in Somalia…The very precious security co-operation between Uganda and the United States has been undermined for a decade now (since 2015) by unimaginative bureaucrats at the Embassy. This is in spite of the excellent political relations between the two countries.”

But shortly thereafter, Gen Muhoozi deleted his tweets and apologized to the US, claiming he had been misled.

The apology was after he spoke to the US envoy in Kampala. Muhoozi also praised Adonia Ayebare, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations, for brokering the reconciliation.

“I want to apologise to our great friends the United States for my earlier tweets that I have now deleted. I was being fed with wrong information. I have spoken with the US Ambassador to our country and everything is okay. We are going to continue our military cooperation as usual,” Muhoozi wrote.

“I must thank our super diplomat, H.E Adonia Ayebare for quickly resolving any issues we might have had with our good friends the United States of America.”

Gen Muhoozi has previously told US ambassador to leave Uganda for allegedly disrespecting his father Museveni and for undermining Uganda’s sovereignty, but the US ambassador refused to leave. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
