Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) and Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi have called a press conference in which they are expected to make big announcements on the state of affairs at the Najjanankumbi based political organization.
In the past two days, there has been a war of words between two factions of the FDC: one led by Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi, and the other by Vice President and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, and spokesperson, also Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.
The Ssemujju-Lukwago camp accuses Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi of working towards taking FDC to President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni the way they think Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and Democratic Party (DP) leaders have taken their parties to the president and ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman.
Ssemujju has threatened to expose more rot at the FDC as well as the dirty secrets of the Amuriat-Nandala Mafabi camp if further provoked.
“You cannot scare me. I do not die quietly. Nobody should expect that. It is not in my DNA. People can go and investigate. Since I was born, I don’t die quietly,” Ssemujju said during a Tuesday television show.
“If people provoke me, all the evidence I have will come out. I don’t want anyone to provoke me now.”
This was after the Amuriat-Nandala group demanded a public apology from the party spokesperson and advised him to resign after he and Lukwago held a consultative meeting on the future of the party at Nsambya on Monday, July 17.
Now, Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi have called a press conference to defend themselves and to possibly make major announcements touching on the fate of the members of the Ssemujju-Lukwago camp.
“The party President Eng. Patrick Amuriat together with the Secretary General Rt Hon. Nandala Mafabi will address the media tomorrow Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 11:00 am at the party headquarters Najjanankumbi,” a statement from the party read in part.
“The FDC leaders will shed more light on a number of issues that have been unfolding within the party.”
It should be remembered that the Ssemujju-Lukwago camp has sworn to die fighting to stop Nandala Mafabi and Amuriat selling the FDC to Museveni. They also alleged that Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi pocketed Shs7bn from Museveni to fight Bobi Wine’s NUP and buy posh cars. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
