Besigye: Museveni wants to isolate and crush Buganda

Veteran opposition leader and People’s President Dr Kizza Besigye has warned Buganda that President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni could be planning to isolate the kingdom and crush it.

Besigye says Museveni’s criticism of Buganda for overwhelmingly voting their son Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine in the recently concluded presidential election is absurd.

Museveni and his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) lost in Buganda, with Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) sweeping most parliamentary seats in the subregion.

The president blamed his loss on sectarianism.

But Besigye wondered if it was sectarianism for Museveni to garner more votes from his Nkore (Ankole) subregion.

The four-time presidential candidate told NTV on the Spot Museveni could be closer to fulfilling his plan to crush Buganda.

He suspects Mengo could face what Rwenzururu went through months after the 2016 elections.

A military raid on the kingdom’s palace in Kasese left over 100 people, including guards, dead.

Besigye claims the attacks was informed by Kasese district’s and Rwenzururu’s support for the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

“Dividing pple regionally, ethnically is one of the time tested approaches that every dictator uses. Before Buganda they were saying it was Northerners who were voting Besigye. Northerners also believed the narrative. It is a manipulation. It was accompanied by intensified patronage,” said Besigye.
