Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that he will make a visit to the country where he was born.
Currently aged 48, Muhoozi is Museveni’s only well known son and a man some believe is Uganda’s heir-apparent and crown prince to the presidential office, the highest in the land.
Gen Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for nearly four decades, turned 78 years old last month. He has been president since 1986 when he captured power following a bush war that lasted five years and left hundreds of thousands of people in the Luweero Triangle dead.
Recently, Gen Museveni relieved his son Muhoozi of his duties as the Commander of Land Forces of the country’s national army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), after the tweeting general whipped up a storm with his post on his army’s ability to capture Nairobi within two weeks.
Museveni also elevated Muhoozi from the rank of Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) to that of a full General, the highest in the UPDF.
Muhoozi will retain his position as the senior presidential advisor on special operations.
He has since handed over office to his successor Lt Gen Apollo Muhanga Kayanja. When he handed over office, Gen Muhoozi revealed his next plan, which is somewhat related to his rumored 2026 presidential bid. He also explained why he refers to UPDF officers as ‘my soldiers.’ (Read Stories Here and There).
And now that he has some time on him, Muhoozi has revealed that he will visit the country where he was born on April 24, 1974, during Idi Amin Dada’s reign.
Muhoozi was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, during the time his father was a leader in the Front for National Salvation (Fronasa), a group that was fighting Amin.
After his promotion to the rank of general, Muhoozi has announced he will visit his motherland.
“My next visit is to my true Motherland! Tanzania!! I will be very happy to visit the land of my birth and salute the greatest woman in Africa! H.E. Samia Suluhu,” noted Muhoozi.
President Museveni has previously revealed interesting facts about his son. For example, Museveni has revealed the reason he named his son ‘Muhoozi’ as well as his special name and how it came about. (Read Stories Here and There).
