Augustine Otuko, a well-known politician in Ngariam County, has officially picked up nomination forms to take part in the upcoming NRM party primaries. This means he is ready to challenge the current MP and State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang, once again.
Speaking to journalists after getting the forms, Otuko said he is determined to promote leadership that listens to people and puts their needs first. He strongly criticized what he called the growing use of fear and division in politics, which he blamed on the current MP.
“We must stop politics that rely on threats and dividing people. Ngariam needs leaders who unite the people and give them hope, not ones who create hate,” Otuko said.
He also spoke about the 2021 general elections, saying they were full of problems like cheating and voter bribery. He believes these actions made the election process unfair and dishonest.
Otuko said he believes things will be better this time. He praised the NRM Secretariat for putting in place systems to stop unfair actions by what he called “a group of political cowards.”
He added, “Now we have a digital Party Membership and Voter Register, thanks to the good leadership of the Party Chairman and National Secretariat. This will help make the primaries more honest and fair.”
However, he also called on the Party Electoral Commission to stay alert and serious, especially by watching local officials in villages and sub-counties to stop any wrongdoing.
He said the party must also improve how it organizes elections within itself to win back the trust of the people. He believes that if this is done well, the elections on July 16, 2025, will truly reflect the wishes of the people.
“I know the people of Ngariam are ready for a new start—one built on togetherness, service, and true democracy. We already saw this during the recent village-level elections where we did very well and forced Ogwang and his group to back off,” Otuko said.
