The Chief Political Commissar of the Uganda Police Force Asan Kasingye has revealed has tested positive for Covid19.
“BAD NEWS!! I’AM #COVID19 POSITIVE,” Kasingye tweeted on August 23.
Meanwhile, Uganda confirmed 97 new cases from results of tests conducted on August 22. Some 4,005 samples were tested: 1,501 from points of entry, and 2,504 from contacts and alerts.
The new cases include: Contacts and alerts (90): Kampala (59), Wakiso (11), Buikwe (06), Luweero (03, Namisindwa (03), Mukono (02), Jinja (02), Kabale (01), Amuru (01), Oyam (01), and Tororo (01).
One returnee from Mali, six truck drivers that entered Uganda via Malaba (02), Busia (02), Mpondwe (01) and Padea (01) also tested positive for the viral respiratory disease.
A statement from the Ministry of Health (MoH) also said 10 foreign truck drivers had tested positive for Covid19 at the border points of entry but their entry into the country was not permitted.
Uganda country has a cumulative infection toll of 2,263 cases. Recoveries stand at 1,226.
