The total amount of money needed to conduct the burial of Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, the former governor of the central Bank of Uganda (BoU), has left many labelling it ‘an expensive burial.’
Mutebile died in Nairobi at the weekend. (Read story here, and a related one there).
A vigil was held at his Kololo residence on January 26.
On January 27, a special sitting of Parliament was held to pay tribute to Mutebile.
But the body of the former BoU governor was not brought to Parliament as expected. (Read story here).
Now, a budget reportedly drafted by authorities shows that the burial ceremony, to be held in Kabale on Sunday, will cost about Shs409m (409,545,180/= to be exact).
Of this amount, Shs244.8m (244,830,000/= to be exact) will be spent on food, drinks and others.
Security will consume Shs131.6m (131,625,200/=) to be exact.
A total of Shs33m (33,089,980/= to be exact) will be spent on road works.
Meanwhile, Mutebile’s widow Betty has begged President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his government not to throw her family from the governors official residence in Kololo. (Read story here).
