Alan Kasujja Appointed Uganda Media Centre Boss and Government Spokesperson

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former BBC presenter Alan Kasujja as Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre and government spokesperson.

This is according to a letter dated December 27, 2025, in which the president addressed his son and military chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on the matter.

Gen Muhoozi had told the president of concerns at the Uganda Media Centre. The president confirmed the matter had been discussed and a decision taken to give Alan Kasujja the job.

“I have received your letter dated the 27th November, 2025, regarding the Media Centre. I was not aware of the on-going manoeuvres. However, some weeks ago, we had discussed the idea of Allan Kasujja with you,” Museveni wrote.

The president also revealed to his son that he had directed Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, to appoint Kasujja.

“I have already directed Dr. Chris Baryomunsi to appoint Allan Kasujja as Executive Director of the Media Centre. We can, then, look at the others.”

Indeed, Museveni has directed the information ministry to formally commence the process to appoint Kasujja and other leaders at the centre.

“By the copy of this letter, I direct Dr. Chris Baryomunsi to initiate the procedures of appointing Allan Kasujja and, additionally, assessing the others as to who could be the Deputy,” Museveni wrote.

The Uganda Media Centre coordinates government communications, and facilitates official briefings interactions between state institutions and the media.

Kasujja will now formally replace Ofwono Opondo, who is now an MP-elect representing the elderly in the 12^th parliament.

Kasujja has been in the media for more than three decades. He has worked at Sanyu FM and Capital FM Uganda, and the BBC where he presented the World Service’s Newsday programme and hosted the Africa Daily podcast.

Kasujja quit his BBC job in August 2025.
