Kassanda South MP Simeo Nsubuga, a sworn campaigner of the 2017 presidential age limit removal, says he will run as an independent after losing the NRM Kassanda South MP primary election.
Nsubuga lost Michael Muhumuza in the election to pick the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the 2021 parliamentary election.
On September 04, Kassanda District NRM registrar Susan Namuddu declared Muhumuza the winner of the hotly contested election.
Muhumuza beat Nsubuga by only 162 votes. Muhumuza got 11,173 against Nsubuga’s 11,011
But hours later, Nsubuga told reporters at his home located in Myanzi Trading Centre, Myanzi Sub County in Kassanda District, that his victory was stolen.
He further accused the opposition of hijacking the NRM elections in Kassanda.
“I feel, and I am sure my victory was robbed. I followed the exercise everywhere and it was not free and fair. Many people were involved in the malpractices and so I cannot accept the results,” he said.
“Many of the people now jubilating are from the Opposition.”
He made it clear he would still contest against Muhumuza in the 2021 election.
“I will, therefore, stand as an independent,” Nsubuga said.
