Again! Court Martial denies Nubian Li, Eddie Mutwe bail

The General Court Martial has once again declined to grant bail to National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s private body guard Edward Ssebuufu aka Eddie Mutwe, singing partner Buken Ali aka Nubian Li, and over 30 others bail.

Sitting in Makindye, the military court, presided over by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti agreed with prosecution that the suspects would incite violence and riots once released on bail.

Court relied on prosecution’s argument, largely dwelling on an affidavit sworn by D/AIP Peter Wetaka of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters.

Wetaka said “the accused were inciting violent protests and were of violent conduct towards police officers which they are likely to continue if granted bail.”

Although 13 of the initial 124 arrested in Kalangala in December 2020 were granted bail last week, Mutwe, Nubian Li and others had been further remanded.

And when they returned to court for their bail application hearing, they were further remanded.

They face charges of illegal possession of four rounds of ammunition.

Prosecution alleges that on January 03, the suspects and others still at large, while at Kiggundu Zone of Makerere Kavule, were found in possession of four rounds of ammunition yet this is a monopoly of the Defense Forces.

But some of the suspects insist they had been remanded to Kitalya Prison by Masaka Chief Magistrates Court and there was no way they would be in Kavule.
