It is Easter Sunday today, April 5, 2026, and Uganda is abuzz with the spirit of resurrection. Two leaders, with different paths, shared their messages of hope. In what looked like different messages but one Easter spirit, President Yoweri Museveni and opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine shared their messages.
President Yoweri Museveni’s message was a reflection on the spiritual significance of Easter. “Fellow Countrymen, Countrywomen and Bazzukulu,” he began, invoking a sense of national unity. He spoke of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, emphasizing God’s power to turn around bad situations and symbolize new beginnings. His tone was one of paternal reassurance, wishing Ugandans a “Happy Easter” alongside Maama Janet.
Museveni’s full Easter Message
Fellow Countrymen, Countrywomen and Bazzukulu.
Happy Resurrection Day!!
According to the Holy Scriptures, on the Third Day, after the crucifixtion of our Lord Jesus Christ, He resurrected from the dead, in fulfillment of divine prophecies concerning the Messiah.
Easter signifies victory over death. It eclipses the sorrow and agony of the cross, which Jesus bore for the omission of sins and salvation of mankind.
Easter assures believers that they worship a living Savior whose redemption covers all generations. It reaffirms the promise of eternal life.
The transition from disappointment of death on Good Friday to the Joy of resurrection on Sunday demonstrates God’s ability to turn around a bad situation in our lives.
Easter symbolizes a new dawn in our lives, families and societies. This is the Spiritual significance of Easter.
Maama Janet and I wish you a Happy Easter.
Yoweri K Museveni

On the other hand, Bobi Wine framed Easter as a call to action. His message, bearing the National Unity Platform logo, reminded Ugandans that “justice will always rise and hope cannot be silenced.”
He urged citizens to stay firm, look out for one another, and keep the faith, invoking the spirit of resurrection to fuel their resolve for freedom and dignity.
While Museveni focused on spiritual renewal, Bobi Wine emphasized the struggle for national renewal. Two leaders, two messages, but the same Easter spirit resonating through Uganda.
